Outside
the Box.
I wanted to share with you all about a project that is close to my heart.
I am hoping it will be something that will interest you as well.
It involves water and people.
In 2008 I ran a campaign to raise $18,000.00 to buy a water well through a ministry called
World
Vision.
The project purchased a Deep Well for Disease-Free water:
"Dig a deep well, fit it with a hand pump, and you can provide up to 2,800 gallons
of safe water a day for as many as 300 people! In many communities, clean water
lies hundreds of feet below layers of hard rock. Children have no choice but
to drink disease-infested water from surface lakes and ponds. When our drilling
teams strike water, entire villages erupt in celebration because a clean water
source can cut a community’s child mortality rate in half."
EVERYONE needs and deserves to have clean water to drink.
This passion for helping people have clean water to drink started after I read the book "White Man Walking" by Ward Brehm and watched a movie called "Millions".
Ward walked from a village in Africa where the only available water was some mud hole that the animals swam in. This is all the villagers had to drink. The movie "Millions" tells of a little boy who wants to give the money he found to the poor. In the end he gives money for a villate in Africa to have a water well! MY HEART LEAPED!.
I would love to share more details of why I got ivolved with this project. I can be reached at 763-670-8772 if you are interested in donating or if you would like more information.
Many Thanks For Your Support!
Deb
The 2008 goal of $18,000.00 was reached with matching funds from the Hilton Foundation. The placement of the well will be in Ghana, West Africa.
